Postgraduate Scholarship-Health and Safety in Homecare (Youth Services), Australia

One postgraduate scholarship is available for a suitably qualified candidate with a good Honours degree in a social or health science discipline to undertake research studies leading to a PhD in occupational health. This scholarship is funded by an ARC Linkage Projects grant and will provide support for three years on a full-time basis. The successful candidate will join a research team in a dynamic and stimulating work environment. The project is titled Caring for the Carers: Occupational Health and Safety in Homecare. The provision of home-based care is a significant and growing area of employment in Australia. Homecare workers support very vulnerable clients. At the same time, they are themselves exposed to significant health and safety risks, which have not been widely investigated. The project will identify OHS risks and hazards in homecare work. The PhD student’s research will examine OHS risks and hazards in one type of homecare work – youth services. Their research will contribute to the development of interventions to secure healthier, safer and more sustainable workplaces for homecare workers.

Academic Excellence Scholarships (AES) for International Students at La Trobe University, Australia

La Trobe’s Academic Excellence Scholarships are targeted towards high achieving international students from all countries across all of La Trobe’s undergraduate and postgraduate coursework programs.  The awards are for newly commencing students only, and are non-renewable lump sums awarded across a maximum period of two semesters (or twelve months).

The AES Awards are open to international students proposing to undertake undergraduate and coursework full degrees at La Trobe (noting that Higher Degree Research, Exchange, Study Abroad, ELICOS and Foundation Studies and Diploma students are ineligible).

Selection is based primarily on academic excellence, and applicants will need to have scored a minimum of 75 per cent or equivalent in their previous degree/award to be competitive.

Adelaide Scholarships International (ASI), University of Adelaide

The University of Adelaide offers a scholarships scheme for international students undertaking postgraduate research study. Its purpose is to attract high quality overseas postgraduate students to areas of research strength in the University of Adelaide to support its research effort. The selection for scholarships is extremely competitive.

A number of ASI scholarships may be available in the mid year round of scholarships for semester 2, 2012 to outstanding international students from any country undertaking postgraduate research in any academic discipline.

The ASI provides:

1. Course tuition fees for two years for a Masters degree by Research and three years for a Doctoral research degree (an extension is possible for doctoral programs only);
2. An annual living allowance of approximately $23,728 (2012 value) for the normal duration of the program; and
3. If the award holder holds a subclass 574 visa the award covers the cost of compulsory standard Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) Worldcare policy for the student and their spouse and dependents (if any) for the period of the scholarship. If the award holder does not hold a subclass 574 visa then he/she is responsible for the cost of health insurance.

The scholarship does NOT cover visa application fees.

Applicants should hold at least the equivalent of an Australian First Class Honours degree. This is a four year degree with a major research project in the final year. Other criteria that will be taken into consideration is undergraduate performance, bachelor and honours awards and scholarships, other postgraduate degrees, publications in internationally refereed journals, the presentation of conference papers and relevant industry experience.

Applications for these scholarships are always highly competitive.  Generally ASI recipients have completed a Masters degree including a significant research component and have several publications and relevant work and research experience.

Conditions

• ASI Scholarship will be awarded strictly on academic merit. Extra-curricular achievements will not be considered.
• Citizens and Permanent Residents of Australia, and citizens of New Zealand are ineligible.
• Those undertaking research via remote candidature are ineligible.
• International applicants are not eligible for an ASI if they have already commenced the degree for which they are seeking an award, unless they can establish that they were unable to apply for an ASI in the last round of the previous calendar year.
• International applicants who have not provided evidence of their meeting English language proficiency requirements by the closing date are not eligible for an ASI.
• International applicants must not hold a research qualification regarded by the University of Adelaide to be equivalent to an Australian Research Doctorate degree or, if undertaking a Research Masters degree, not hold a research qualification regarded by the University of Adelaide to be equivalent to or higher than an Australian Research Masters degree.

• Scholarship winners will not be permitted to defer commencement until 2013.
• Applicants who applied in previous international major scholarship rounds are not eligible to apply again.

International Master Scholarship in Law, University of Sydney, Australia

 

2012 SYDNEY LAW SCHOOL FOUNDATION INTERNATIONAL SCHOLARSHIPS MASTER’S BY COURSEWORK

Eligibility: Applicants must:

• Have accepted an unconditional offer of admission to a Master’s by Coursework program.
• Have a minimum IELTS or equivalent for the Master’s by Coursework: 7.0 IELTS with no band below 6.0;
• Be a citizen of a country other than Australia or New Zealand, and may not hold permanent residency in Australia.

Conditions of Award: The Sydney Law School Foundation International Scholarship is worth AU$10,000 payable in two equal instalments in late March and late August in the first year of study.

Commencement of Degree: Scholarships are awarded on the basis that the student will commence study in the academic year for which it is offered, and for the program in which a place has been offered in the Sydney Law School.

Duration: The scholarship is limited to one year.

Leave: Scholarship holders may in special circumstances take leave of absence from their scholarship for a maximum of one semester. Students must check their visa conditions before applying for leave; and they must apply for permission in advance of taking such leave. Requests to hold the scholarship part-time will only be approved under exceptional circumstances, such as a medical condition, which limits the student’s capacity to undertake full-time study. Such requests must be submitted in writing to the Sydney Law School.

Transferring Scholarships: These scholarships cannot be transferred from one institution to another. Nor from the Sydney Law School to another faculty in the University of Sydney.

Termination of Scholarships: Scholarships will be terminated:

• if the student fails to meet the eligibility requirements
• if the student fails to make satisfactory progress in the program
• when the student ceases to be enrolled as a full-time student, or discontinues their study
• if the University determines that the student is guilty of serious misconduct, including, but not limited to, having provided false or misleading information
• if the student does not resume study at the end of a period of approved leave
• if the student is granted permanent residency in Australia. Students must immediately advise the International Office and the Faculty Office about any changes to their visa status

• No separate application for a Scholarship is necessary. An application for admission to the University of Sydney in 2012 will constitute an application for a Scholarship. All applications meeting the selection and eligibility criteria will be automatically considered.


• The deadline for receipt of applications and complete supporting documentation (academic and English language proficiency results) is 31 October 2011 for Semester 1, 2012, and 30 April 2012 (for Semester 2, 2012). Applications received after these deadlines will not be considered for the Scholarship.

CONDITIONS

Undergraduate Scholarship recipients will need to maintain satisfactory academic progress, which, for the purposes of retaining the Scholarship, is defined as maintaining a credit average (at least 65%) or more each year. Failure to do so may result in the Scholarship being terminated.

• must not be in receipt of any other tuition scholarship from the University of Sydney;


• must commence study in 2012 – commencement may not be deferred;


• will be required to pay for their own airfares to Sydney, living expenses, study materials, text books, any ancillary fees (if applicable) and Overseas Student Health Cover each year;


• are also responsible for paying the balance of the tuition fees each year;

Master Scholarship in Water Resources Management by ICE WaRM, Australia

ICE WaRM offers a scholarship programme to attract high quality international students to education and training in water resources management, delivered by ICE WaRM partner institutions.

The ICE WaRM scholarship programme aims to:

• provide high calibre students with the opportunity to study with ICE WaRM partners to further their knowledge;
• provide students with the opportunity to participate in research and advance their scientific knowledge in water resources management;
• encourage the exchange of ideas on best practice within water-related fields;
• provide students with the opportunity to participate in presentations, conferences, seminars and forums on contemporary issues in water resources management;
• provide the opportunity for students from organisations and countries currently facing major water issues to participate in programmes which they may not be able to fund; and

SCHOLARSHIP FUNDING
ICE WaRM offers full and partial scholarships toward the cost of the programme (fee tuition). For international students the fully funded scholarship is AUD$40,000 and partially funded scholarship is AUD$20,000*.

There are two types of Australia Awards: the Endeavour Awards administered by the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR) and the international development awards administered by the Australia Agency for International Development (AusAID). Both programs are providing opportunities to study in Australia for International Students.

PhD Scholarships, International Centre for Muslim and Non-Muslim Understanding, University of South Australia

UniSA’s International Centre for Muslim and Non-Muslim Understanding encourages scholarship that contributes to the development of Critical Muslim Studies as a distinct approach combining insights from post-orientalism, post-colonialism and post-structuralism. Muslim Studies is aimed at re-framing the Muslim question that haunts the contemporary world.

PhD scholarships are available for students wishing to undertake research within the field of Critical Muslim studies, working with a diverse and dynamic team of international and interdisciplinary scholars.

Value
The scholarships are valued at AU$30,000 tax free per annum (plus relocation costs for successful applicants residing outside of Australia up to a value of AU$5,000.

Pemerintah Australia kembali meluncurkan program beasiswa Australian Development Scholarships (ADS), yaitu program beasiswa yang dibiayai melalui AusAID untuk program studi S-2 dan S-3 tahun ajaran 2011/2012 di universitas-universitas Australia. Beasiswa ini terbuka bagi sektor pemerintah dan swasta.
Prioritas beasiswa ini diberikan untuk bidang-bidang studi yang menunjang tujuan peningkatan kemampuan sumber daya manusia Indonesia dan pembangunan yang akan mendukung, yaitu Pertumbuhan Berkelanjutan dan Manajemen Ekonomi; Investasi Pembangunan Sumber Daya Manusia; Demokrasi, Keadilan dan Pemerintahan yang Baik; serta Keamanan dan Perdamaian.
Adapun prioritas beasiswa ADS akan dialokasikan ke provinsi-provinsi yang menjadi target Strategi Kerjasama Pembangunan Australia Indonesia 2008-2013. Untuk tahun 2011-2012 prioritas diberikan kepada geographic focus area, yaitu Papua, Papua Barat, Nusa Tenggara Timur (NTT), Nusa Tenggara Barat (NTB) dan Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam (NAD).
Skema beasiswa ADS mencakup antara lain:
• Biaya pendidikan; yaitu seluruh biaya akademis dan biaya-biaya lain yang bersifat wajib bagi siswa internasional
• Bantuan tutorial tambahan: yaitu biaya yang bila dibutuhkan sebagai bantuan tutorial akan diberikan pada siswa yang mengalami kesulitan mata kuliah tertentu untuk membantu proses belajar.
• Biaya perjalanan; yaitu penerbangan kelas ekonomi ke dan dari Australia pada awal dan akhir masa beasiswa.
• Kerja lapangan di luar Australia; biaya yang diberikan bila riset mencakup setidaknya 50 persen dari program, siswa dapat menerima satu kali tiket PP ke Indonesia untuk melaksanakanya.
• Anggaran pemukiman; biaya ini diberikan satu kali pada awal masa studi di Australia.
• Penyertaan keluarga; Keluarga (isteri/suami dan anak-anak) boleh ikut serta ke Australia atas biaya sendiri jika telah memenuhi persyaratan AusAID dan imigrasi.
• Biaya Hidup; biaya yang diberikan sebagai tunjangan hidup selama siswa studi di Australia. Besarnya jumlah tunjangan untuk perorangan atau berkeluarga adalah sama.
• Asuransi Kesehatan: skema ini diberikan bagi penerima beasiswa saja selama masa studi di Australia.
• Pelatihan Bahasa Inggris; program ini tersedia untuk tujuan akademis dan merupakan bagian dari beasiswa dan wajib diikuti.
• Biaya Perjalanan reuni keluarga: yaitu biaya untuk penerbangan kelas ekonomi ke dan dari Indonesia untuk setiap akhir tahun ajaran. Ini tidak belaku bagi siswa yang hanya menjalankan progam studi 1 tahun. Biaya ini berlaku bagi siswa yang belum berkeluarga maupun yang sudah berkeluarga, namun tidak membawa serta keluarganya.

Rowan Nicks International Scholarship, Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, Australia

The Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (the College) offers the Rowan Nicks International Scholarship each year. The Rowan Nicks Scholarships and Fellowships are the most prestigious of the College’s international awards and are directed at qualified surgeons who have the potential to be leaders in their countries.

The International Scholarship is designed to provide the Scholar with the opportunity to:

1. Develop skills to enable them to manage a department.
2. Become competent in teaching.
3. Gain experience in clinical research.
4. Gain some further exposure in a particular surgical field.

Conditions of the Rowan Nicks Scholarship
The Scholarship is usually tenable in a major hospital (or hospitals) in Australia or New Zealand, and will be awarded for a period of up to twelve months.

The Scholarship will provide funds for return economy class traveling expenses (including ground transport) between the home country and hospital attachment for the Scholar. A living allowance equivalent to $AUD 36,000 for twelve months in Australasia or appropriate pro-rata for another country will be provided in installments. This is a tax-free stipend.

No Scholarship will be awarded to an applicant who will receive a salary for their attachment.

The Scholarship does not cover any costs whatsoever associated with the Scholar’s family members. Scholars are welcome to be accompanied by immediate family members at their own cost.

The Scholar will be encouraged to visit other appropriate institutions in Australia and New Zealand or appropriate other country during their training. Funds required for travel for this purpose will be considered on an individual basis. If in Australia or New Zealand at the relevant time, the Scholar will be encouraged to attend the Annual Scientific Congress of the College. Funds to attend the ASC will be supplied to cover the cost of registration, travel and accommodation for the Scholar only.

The Scholar must provide a progress report half-way through a twelve month Scholarship and also at the conclusion of the Scholarship. The final report should be no less than 1000 words in length. When the Scholarship is for six months or less, one report only will be required.

Eligibility for the Rowan Nicks Scholarship
Applications for the 2012 International Scholarship are open to qualified surgeons from Bhutan, Cambodia, Laos, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, Vietnam and Indonesia (with preference to applicants from outside the major capital cities of Jakarta and Surabaya who will return to practice in regional areas).

The eligibility criteria for the Scholarship are that applicants must:

1. Be a citizen of the country from which the application is made.
2. Be between the ages of 25-45 years inclusive on the closing date of applications.
3. Provide evidence they have passed the exit exam of his/her country’s course of post-graduate training in surgery by the time selection takes place. This is essential. The Scholarship is not available to candidates in training. Recipients must provide evidence that they have satisfactorily completed their training program by the time they take up their Rowan Nicks Scholarship.
4. Be fluent in the English language. Applicants must provide evidence that they meet the English language requirements for registration with the Medical Board of Australia or Medical Council of New Zealand by the time selection takes place (refer to page 15 of this application form). The Medical Board of Australia requires an International English Language Testing System (IELTS) test score of at least 7.0 across all test components. The Medical Council of New Zealand requires and IELTS test score of at least 7.5 across all test components.
5. Provide the names and full contact details of the referees as outlined in the application form. Failure to include the names of referees may adversely affect the application in the selection process.
6. Guarantee to return to his/her place of origin on completion of the Scholarship.

Selection Procedure
Applicants will only be considered if they meet the eligibility requirements of the Scholarship and have completed the application form in its entirety following the instructions supplied. Applications must be received by 5pm AEST on Monday, 6 June 2011 at the following address:

The Rowan Nicks Committee will undertake the review and selection of the Scholars. The Committee will primarily consider the potential of the applicant to become a leader in the country of origin, and/or to supply a much-needed service in a particular surgical discipline. The Committee must be convinced that the applicant is of high calibre in surgical ability, ethical integrity, and qualities of leadership, and the references collected by the College from the referees support the applicant as one who will teach and promulgate high standards in the development of surgical experience in their country.

The Selection Committee will make the final recommendations to the College Council in October 2011. Once an official decision is made all applicants will be officially notified of the outcome via email and post by 31 December 2011. The view of the Council will be final.

Although selection will primarily be based on merit, applicants providing a valuable service in remote areas, without opportunities for institutional support or educational facilities, will be given special consideration.

This is not just a personal award; the orientation is “teach the teacher to teach others”, and the Scholar must come with a sense of responsibility to the needs of his/her country.
