Jangan Sepelekan Surat Rekomendasi

 
Dalam pengajuan aplikasi beasiswa, ada salah satu syarat yang harus Anda penuhi yaitu surat rekomendasi atau Letters of Recommendation. Surat rekomendasi ini biasanya diberikan oleh Rektor (jika Anda ingin melanjutkan S2) atau Kepala Sekolah (untuk S1), bisa juga ditulis oleh orang-orang yang sudah berpengalaman dan berpengaruh di bidang akademik yang memiliki kredibilitas. 

Selain itu, Surat rekomendasi ini bisa juga diberikan oleh orang yang kredibel di bidang pekerjaan yang sesuai dengan minat Anda. Surat rekomendasi ini juga menjadi salah satu persyaratan yang akan memuluskan jalan Anda meraih beasiswa.

Ada beberapa hal yang harus Anda lakukan untuk membuat surat rekomendasi yang baik.

Pertama, Anda harus memastikan bahwa profesor, atau praktisi yang nanti akan memberikan surat rekomendasi dapat menyatakan bahwa Anda memiliki kemampuan dan kualitas yang berhubungan dengan beasiswa yang Anda pilih. Misalnya, ketika Anda melamar beasiswa untuk belajar fotografi, mintalah fotografer terkenal dan andal untuk menuliskan rekomendasinya. Pastikan dia juga sudah melihat karya Anda.

Kedua, setelah Anda tahu ingin meminta rekomendasi siapa, hubungilah mereka. Jika Anda sudah lama tidak bertemu mereka, pastikan mereka mengingat Anda. Kalau Anda menghubungi mereka lewat e-mail, katakanlah dengan spesifik nama Anda, kapan Anda pernah menjadi mahasiswa atau pernah bekerja dengannya, dan apa yang pernah Anda hasilkan ketika bekerja dengan mereka. Selalu hubungi perekomenasi Anda jika sudah mendekati batas akhir pengumpulan berkas. Waktu yang efektif agar Anda tak perlu terburu-buru adalah dua bulan sebelum batas akhir tersebut.

Ketiga, akan lebih baik jika orang yang memberikan rekomendasi tersebut adalah orang yang betul-betul mengenal Anda. Jika mereka mengenal Anda secara personal, akan lebih mudah untuknya memberikan rekomendasi jujur tentang Anda. Ada beberapa institusi pemberi beasiswa yang tahu mana surat rekomendasi ‘asli’ dan mana yang berupa ‘draft’ alias surat rekomendasi yang hanya copy paste dan diubah.

Keempat, setelah rekomender Anda setuju untuk menuliskan surat rekomendasi untuk Anda, berikanlah sebanyak mungkin informasi tentang Anda. Ringankanlah pekerjaan mereka dengan memberikan list prestasi dan CV Anda. Selalu cek apakah mereka sudah menyelesaikan suratnya atau belum. Jangan ketika mendekati batas akhir,  Anda baru menagihnya.
Terakhir, ketika rekomender Anda sudah mengirimkan surat rekomendasi untuk Anda, jangan lupa untuk memberikan surat pernyataan terima kasih karena sudah dibuatkan rekomendasi dan juga sudah membantu Anda dalam mengejar beasiswa ini. Selalu keep in touch dengan mereka, dan jika Anda mendapatkan beasiswa tersebut,  jangan lupa beritahu mereka dan ucapkan terima kasih.

Key Dates
The ESED Masters Scholarship deadline is March 9, 2012. All documents must arrive at the Partnership’s General Secretariat by the deadline. All documents arriving after the deadline will not be considered.
How are applications judged?
An Academic Panel consisting of accomplished representatives from Europe, North America and Japan will review the applications. All selections are final and all applicants will be notified.
How will I receive the funds?
Awards will be directly deposited (in US$) into the accounts of the Institution where you are enrolled and provided to you on a regular basis as long as you are making satisfactory progress toward achieving your academic or research requirements.
What are my obligations to the Partnership if I am selected?
You are expected to complete your degree or your research, update the organization about your progress and publish your results. You are required to acknowledge the Partnership’s support when publishing or making presentations on your research and results. We may ask you to present your results at a Partnership function, in which case your out of pocket expenses incurred to make the presentation will be covered by the organization.

1.277 Mahasiswa Aceh Dikirim ke Luar Negeri

Pemerintah Aceh melalui Komisi Beasiswa Aceh (KBA) selama empat tahun terakhir telah mengirim sebanyak 1.277 mahasiswa untuk belajar ke sejumlah perguruan tinggi di luar negeri. Hal itu dikatakan Koordinator Lembaga Sumber Daya Manusia (LPSDM) Aceh Dr Qismullah, Selasa (4/10/2011), di Banda Aceh.
Para mahasiswa tersebut dibiayai untuk menempuh pendidikan jenjang program master (S2) dan doktor (S3). Seusai menjalani pendidikan, para mahasiswa itu harus kembali ke Aceh.
"Sesuai dengan kontrak, setelah belajar di sana mahasiswa harus kembali untuk membangun Aceh," kata Qismullah.
Ia menambahkan, mahasiswa yang dikirim ke luar negeri menjalani seleksi ketat. Tujuannya, mahasiswa yang menuntut ilmu disana bisa mengimplementasikan untuk membangun Aceh. Para mahasiwa itu disebar ke 16 negara.
"Setiap tahun, permohonan untuk mendapatkan beasiswa ke luar negeri meningkat drastis. Tapi, kendala yang dihadapi rata-rata mahasiswa kita kurang paham dengan bahasa," ujar dia.
Program ini, tambah Qismullah, tidak hanya mengirimkan para mahasiswa ke luar negeri, tetapu juga ke sejumlah universitas di dalam negeri. Total mahasiswa yang belajar di dalam negeri sebanyak 423 orang yang tersebar di 30 universitas di Indonesia.
Para mahasiswa yang mendapatkan beasiswa ini diharapkan bisa mengimplementasikannya sehingga memberikan manfaat bagi masyarakat Aceh.

Undergraduate Scholarships at Malaysian Universities – for Indonesian Students only 2012-2013
The Ancora-Khazanah Asia Scholarship is a collaboration between the Ancora Foundation and Yayasan Khazanah to allow Indonesians to pursue a four-year undergraduate education at leading Malaysian universities.
This programme supports Yayasan Khazanah’s objective to develop future business and industry leaders in the region. It further provides a means for Khazanah and its group of companies to contribute towards the social development of the countries it has operational interests, especially Indonesia.

It seeks candidates with an excellent academic record and rigor in extra curricular activity. It is a highly competitive process. In 2009, five candidates were selected from a field of around 500 applicants. They have several universities to choose from. These include Universiti Tenaga Nasional, Universiti Multimedia, Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Malaysia, Universiti Sains Malaysia, Universiti Putra Malaysia, Universiti Malaya and Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM).
