Jangan Salah, Pilih Perekomendasi yang Tepat!

Dalam berburu beasiswa, mempersiapkan sejumlah strategi merupakan hal penting untuk menentukan kesuksesan Anda. Salah satu syarat yang menentukan adalah surat rekomendasi. Tak hanya teknis penulisan dan isi surat, siapa yang memberikan rekomendasi juga menjadi faktor penentu. Jadi, jangan pernah salah memilih, siapa orang yang Anda minta memberikan rekomendasi!
Perlu diketahui, pemberi beasiswa akan menaruh perhatian terhadap siapa yang memberikan rekomendasi dan testimoni tentang Anda. Surat rekomendasi dari orang yang sudah mengenal Anda akan membuat pemberi beasiswa percaya dibandingkan dengan tulisan Anda sendiri. Hal ini akan membentuk opini pihak tersebut tentang bagaimana Anda bisa diterima di lingkungan, tentang hasil kerja Anda di tempat kuliah atau sekolah, untuk menentukan apakah Anda layak atau tidak menerima beasiswa tersebut.
Nah, ada sejumlah hal yang perlu Anda perhatikan untuk menentukan orang yang akan dimintai rekomendasi. Semoga membantu!

1. Mintalah orang yang sudah Anda kenal lebih dari enam bulan.
 
Pemberi beasiswa ingin opini dari orang yang benar-benar mengenal Anda, bukan orang yang sekadar tahu.

2. Jangan meminta rekomendasi dari anggota keluarga.  
Mereka akan selalu menuliskan bahwa Anda baik. Jika pemberi beasiswa tahu, maka mereka tak akan menganggap rekomendasi ini obyektif.

3. Mintalah kepada dosen, profesor, atau atasan Anda.
 
Surat rekomendasi biasanya lebih dihargai jika ditulis oleh orang yang sudah ahli dan profesional. Ini artinya Anda dipercaya oleh orang-orang tersebut sehingga bisa menjadi nilai plus untuk Anda.

4. Jangan meminta rekomendasi kepada teman main Anda. 
Pemberi beasiswa juga tidak akan percaya bahwa surat ini obyektif.

Setelah Anda memutuskan orang tepat untuk memberikan rekomendasi, bantulah mereka dengan memberikan guideline atau petuntuk penulisan surat rekomendasi. Misalnya, panjang surat, topik yang harus ditulis, kelebihan Anda, dan kualifikasi Anda untuk beasiswa tersebut.

TWAS-SN Bose Postgraduate Fellowship for Developing Countries Students, India

TWAS and the S.N. Bose National Centre for Basic Sciences, Kolkata, India have agreed to offer five fellowships annually to young foreign scientists from developing countries who wish to pursue research leading towards a PhD in physical sciences.

IMPORTANT: The following is additional information concerning the TWAS-SN Bose Postgraduate Fellowship Programme tenable in India. It is an integral part of the information given here: TWAS Fellowships for Postgraduate Research.
Applicants should be aware that they can apply for only one fellowship per year. With the exception of the fellowships "for research collaboration", all other fellowship programmes offered by TWAS and TWOWS that are mutually exclusive.

Programme Details

  1. TWAS-SN Bose Postgraduate Fellowships are tenable at the S.N. Bose National Centre for Basic Sciences in Kolkata, India for studies leading towards a PhD degree in the physical sciences for four years with the possibility of a one-year extension.
    The Centre carries out the following research activities:
    Linear and Non-linear spectroscopy, Ultrafast molecular processes and spectroscopy, Ultrafast dynamics in biological macromolecules and magnetization, Ultrafast laser induced processes, Soft condensed matter systems of chemical and biological interests, mesocopic physics, ionic liquids, multi-component liquid mixtures, supercooled melts, supercritical fluids, bio-nano interface, nano-magnetism, magnonic crystals, micromagnetic simulations, Nanomaterials in general, and Physics of Correlated oxides, low dimensional systems, magnetic shape memory alloys, dilute magnetic semi-conductors, multi-ferroic materials, thin films of metals and oxides, electronic, magnetic and structural properties of complex materials, superconductivity,  strongly correlated electronic systems, quantum many-body physics, micromagnetic and monte carlo simulation of static  and dynamic properties of nanomagnets, theoretical study of thermalconductivity, Ab initio plane wave pseudo-potential calculation, strongly correlated electron systems, electronic structure and transport through nano-materials.
    Quantum field theory, mathematical physics, cognitive science, granular physics, non-commutative quantum mechanics, statistical physics, non-linear dynamics, turbulences, lattice gauge theories, representation theory of lie groups and coherent states, quantum optics, black holes, constrained dynamics, quantum gravity, quantum spin systems, collective behaviour and emergent phenomena, explosive percolation, complex networks and critical phenomena.
    Cosmology, Relativistic Astrophysics, ionospheric science, Astrochemistry.
  2. Applicants may be registered for a PhD degree in their home country (SANDWICH option), or may enrol in a PhD course at the S.N. Bose National Centre (FULL-TIME option). In both cases, the programme entails only one journey to the host country.
  3. Admission to the PhD programme at the S.N. Bose National Centre will depend on the successful completion of coursework (about one year's duration).
  4. S.N. Bose will provide a monthly stipend to cover living costs, food and health insurance. The monthly stipend will not be convertible into foreign currency. Free on-campus accommodation will be provided.
  5. The language of instruction is English.

Eligibility

Candidates for these fellowships must meet the following criteria:
  • be a maximum age of 35 years on 31 December of the application year;
  • be nationals of a developing country (other than India);
  • be employed at a university or research institution;
  • hold a Master's degree in physics, mathematics or physical chemistry;
  • be accepted by a department of the S.N. Bose National Centre. Requests for preliminary acceptance must be directed to the Dean (Academic Programme), S.N.   • provide evidence of proficiency in English.

Submitting your application

  • The deadline for receipt of applications is 31 August each year.
  • Applicants must submit an Acceptance Letter from a department of the S.N. Bose National Centre when applying, or by the deadline at the latest. Without preliminary acceptance the application will not be considered for selection.
  • Reference letters: Referees must send signed letters as attachments via e-mail directly to TWAS. The subject line must contain: Bose/PG/candidate’s surname. Alternatively, letters should be sent by post in sealed envelopes.
  • Applications for the TWAS-S.N. Bose Postgraduate Fellowship Programme should be sent to TWAS only (by post, fax or email).
