GRIPS Seeks to Cultivate
• Professionals equipped with the skills to identify real policy issues, for the thorough analysis of policies and development of practical solutions, including policy formulation and evaluation
• High-level researchers and experts in policy studies, as well as policy leaders for international organizations, national governments, and societies worldwide

Basic Admissions Policy
• To admit students who are both capable and enthusiastic about acquiring the skills needed to analyze policy issues from an academic standpoint
• To admit not only a significant number of aspiring researchers on an ongoing basis, but also talented young and middle-echelon administrators and professionals who will spearhead policymaking worldwide, including in Japan
• To admit a significant number of foreign students from all over the world
• To admit students of diverse backgrounds without regard to their field of undergraduate specialization

General:

Each academic year, GRIPS admits 250 students for Master’s programs and 24 students for doctoral programs. For those who enter GRIPS in October, the academic year for Master's programs operates from October through next September.

For Master’s programs, deadlines to apply are set by each program in order to accommodate the selection process of scholarship sponsors. Roughly speaking, the deadline to apply for a scholarship is in early November. The final results of screening will be announced by the end of July at the latest.

For the Ph.D. and Doctoral programs, the application deadline varies depending on whether you seek financial aid, and whether you are a current or past GRIPS student. See Ph.D. and Doctoral Programs Summary table for more information.

Deadlines for 2012 admission:
The application deadline is subject to change on short notice, through directive from the Japanese Government (MEXT). This change is exclusively for MP1, PA, Ph. D. applicants.

• December 2, 2011: Policy Analysis Program, Doctoral Programs and *One-year Master’s Program of Public Policy (MP1) /*for scholarship applicants only. Note: Please make sure to obtain ID & Password for the online application by Entry Form no later than November 25, 2011.
• January 13, 2012: *Two-year Master’s Program of Public Policy (MP2) /*for scholarship applicants only. Note: Please make sure to obtain ID & Password for the online application by submitting the Entry Form no later than January 6, 2012.
• February 23, 2012: Public Finance Program. Note: Please make sure to obtain ID & Password for the online application by submitting the Entry Form no later than February 16, 2012.
• May 14, 2012**: MP1, MP2 and Macroeconomic Policy Program /**for applicants supported with any other scholarship and self-financed. Note: Please make sure to obtain ID & Password for the online application by submitting the Entry Form no later than May 7, 2012.

Notes

1. Letters of recommendation must be submitted in sealed envelopes, signed across the seal. Recommendations should be written by people who have supervised the applicant either in an academic or work capacity. For MP1, MP2 and Doctoral programs, preferably, one letter should be written by a university professor and the other should be written by a senior member of the applicant’s present work place.
2. An official copy means a certified true copy of the original document with an official seal obtained from the administration office of the university attended. A true copy of the original document certified by a notary public may also be accepted. Copies attested by organizations/persons not having notary/legal functions will not be accepted or considered for screening.
3. All documents must be presented in English. Translations in English without an official seal obtained from the administration office of the university attended or without a signature of the recommender or the drawer of the document are not acceptable.
4. Faxed documents and digital copies sent through e-mail are not acceptable.

Studi ke Inggris? Perhatikan Ini...

Setiap negara memiliki kebijakan tentang pendidikan yang umumnya sangat berbeda. Tak terkecuali Inggris, sebuah negara yang kaya akan budaya, yang menjadikannya salah satu negara terfavorit tujuan pelajar internasional untuk melanjutkan studi, termasuk para pelajar dari Indonesia.

Lalu, bagaimanakah cara untuk melanjutkan studi di Inggris?

Sama seperti negara-negara lain, hal utama yang harus diperhatikan ketika ingin melanjutkan studi di luar negeri adalah menguasai bahasa negara yang dituju dan yakin dengan program studi yang akan kita pilih. Namun, melanjutkan studi di Inggris menjadi sedikit lebih rumit untuk para pelajar setingkat SMA, khususnya pelajar yang sekolahnya tidak membuka kelas internasional.

"Akses untuk masuk ke program studi di Inggris dari S-1 ke S-2 itu tidak masalah karena bisa langsung ke universitas. Tapi, untuk pelajar SMA yang ingin ke S-1 itu ada beberapa pertimbangan," ungkap UK Education Manager, British Council, Andrias Soesilo, dalam sebuah seminar bertajuk "UK Higher Education" yang digelar  Kedutaan Besar Inggris untuk Indonesia bersama British Council pada "The Best of UK Festival", di Epicentrum Walk, Rasuna Said, Jakarta, Jumat (9/12/2011).

Ia menjelaskan untuk pelajar lulusan setingkat SMA yang di sekolahnya tidak terdapat kelas internasional harus mengambil program foundation selama  9-12 bulan. Dalam program tersebut akan diajarkan beberapa komponen, seperti menulis laporan, dan kemahiran berbahasa Inggris.

"Tentu saja itu harus, karena nantinya para pelajar akan sering melakukan presentasi," ujarnya.

Sementara, untuk pelajar lain yang telah mengikuti kelas internasional di sekolahnya juga harus mengikuti program IB Diploma atau GCE A-Level selama sekitar dua tahun. Dengan program tersebut, para pelajar dimungkinkan untuk memilih lima institusi yang menjadi pilihannya.

"A-Level itu disesuaikan dengan program studi yang akan diambil. Memang menyita waktu, tetapi bisa mengatasi kebingungan karena pelajar dapat memilih lima institusi berbeda. Untuk mengatasi kegagalan, sebaiknya jangan memilih institusi favorit semua," ujarnya.

Sama halnya dengan program studi, tiap-tiap institusi juga memiliki standar yang berbeda. Akan tetapi, secara umum, terang Andrias, program studi bisnis, hukum, dan kedokteran memiliki kompetisi yang lebih ketat. Itu terjadi, menurut dia, karena ketersediaan kelas pada program studi tersebut sangat terbatas.

Program studi bisnis si setiap kelasnya sekitar 30 sampai 40 pelajar, program studi hukum sekitar 15 sampai 20, bahkan untuk universitas favorit, program studi hukum hanya menampung 10 pelajar di setiap kelasnya. Adapun untuk program studi kedokteran jumlahnya lebih sedikit, umumnya hanya 5 pelajar di setiap kelasnya.

"Itu pun nilai A-Levelnya harus A atau B semua, tergantung institusinya. Dan kemahiran bahasa Inggris tentunya menjadi mutlak," ungkap Andrias.

South Asian and South-East Asian Student Scholarships in Europe

Scholarship Title: EU-funded programme- Erasmus Mundus Action 2 – Scholarship for South Asian Countries

Scholarship Description: The EXPERTS scholarship offers a unique opportunity for full-financed mobility for individuals from the partner countries. EXPERTS is part of the large-scale, EU-funded programme- Erasmus Mundus Action 2.

EXPERTS I  and its successor, EXPERTS  II  are scholarship projects funded by the European Commission targeted at citizens of Bangladesh, Bhutan, China, India, Indonesia, Nepal, Pakistan, the Philippines, Sri Lanka and Thailand.

In accordance with the EMA2 call, the objective of the EXPERTS project is to facilitate collaborations between Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) from South and Southeast Asia (SSEA) and EU through the exchange of information in science and policy issues while sharing key issues of sustainable development in academic cooperation.

The project provides the following mobility scholarships from South and South-East Asia to European partner universities (Please note- there are no scholarships from EU to SSEA)-

Undergraduate and graduate students
PhD students
PostDocs
Staff (both academic and administrative)

The EXPERTS aims to establish an innovative framework for capacity development of junior faculty staff, undergraduates, postgraduates, and postdoc researchers through training and upgrading their skills in specified fields of study through a scheme of structured mobility.

Penting, Memahami Format Tes IELTS

IELTS merupakan salah satu yang dipersyaratkan jika hendak melanjutkan studi di negara yang menggunakan pengantar bahasa Inggris. IELTS Academic biasanya untuk mengetahui kemampuan berbahasa Inggris guna kepentingan akademis. Adapun, IELTS General Training untuk kemampuan praktik berbahasa Inggris dalam konteks sehari-hari.

The Keele International Student Scholarship for Undergraduate Students, UK

The Keele International Student Scholarship for undergraduate students is worth GBP2000 towards the cost of your annual tuition fees for the duration of your course.  Students studying a three-year degree can therefore save GBP6000 from the total cost of their degree studies.
The Scholarships are awarded to students who can demonstrate excellence in at least two of the following areas:

* Academic qualifications,
* English Language ability,
* Understanding of the course and motivation to study at Keele,
* Extra-curricular or work experience

Please note that students studying the 5-year undergraduate degree in Medicine and the 4-year undergraduate degree in Pharmacy are not eligible for this award.
To apply for the KIS Scholarship you must have applied to Keele and been offered a place to study here.  You must then complete a separate application form (download KISS Application Form) Applications must have been received and processed before the start of academic year for which the application is made.  KIS Scholarships cannot be awarded to students who have already started their degree at Keele.

The next deadline for receipt of Undergraduate Scholarship applications is 15 April 2012.
The decisions on Scholarships are made by the International Recruitment Team and their decision is final.

Reserve Bank of New Zealand University Scholarships, New Zealand

The Reserve Bank of New Zealand offers two scholarships each year to students who are majoring in Economics, Finance or Banking and who are entering their Honours, Masters or final year of PhD study. Students must have attained at least a B+ average and be studying full time over the academic year.

The value of each scholarship will be $10,000. This money will be paid fortnightly during the academic year.

In addition to the $10,000, an offer of employment is provided at the completion of your qualification. It is important to note that a condition of receipt of the scholarship is that you must accept the position with the Reserve Bank and must remain in that position for a specified period of time. Should this condition not be met you will be required to repay the sum of the scholarship payments made to you.

We welcome applications from international students, provided you are legally entitled to work in New Zealand.

Once short listing has been completed, successful applicants will be asked to attend a half day interview process at the Bank in Wellington. This typically takes place at the beginning of February.

Postgraduate Scholarships for International Students, Bangor University, UK

Guaranteed scholarships are available for outstanding International students applying for postgraduate study...

• Successful applicants who have been offered a place to study at Bangor University will be awarded a £500 scholarship
• £1,000 will be awarded to applicants who have achieved a 2.1 (or equivalent) in their bachelors programme
• £2,000 will be awarded to applicants who have achieved a 1st class honours (or equivalent) in their bachelors programme
• £5,000 will be awarded to a limited number of exceptional applicants (applications must be received by 1st June 2012)

Applicants are NOT required to complete a scholarship application form. Scholarships will continue each year throughout the postgraduate research programme subject to satisfactory performance.

Eligibility Criteria:

• The International Scholarship will apply to students beginning their Postgraduate course in September 2012
• Students who receive other types of scholarships from Bangor University or other sources will not be entitled to the International Scholarship

• The International Scholarship is offered in the form of a deduction in tuitions fees which are payable by the end of October, 2012
• The scholarship is not open to UK/EU applicants
• Students applying for MSc Forestry (distance learning) are eligible to receive the above scholarships and will be rewarded in subsequent years subject to satisfactory performance*
  *students who are entitled to £2,000 scholarship will be rewarded thorugh a £1,000 fee deduction in their second year and a additional £1,000 deduction towards their dissertation fee, students who are entitled £1,000 scholarship will be given £500 fee deduction to their second year fee and a additional £500 off in their dissertation fee
