ASEAN Graduate Scholarship, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore

This scholarship is open to nationals of member countries of ASEAN* (except Singapore) to pursue a designated full-time Masters degree by coursework and dissertation at NTU.
*ASEAN or the Association of Southeast Asian Nations consists of Brunei Darrussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
Eligibility criteria
  • Singaporeans and Singapore Permanent Residents are not eligible to apply
  • Excellent academic record
  • A very good command of the English language
  • At least 2 years of working experience
  • An acceptable score in the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) – for applicants of the MBA programme
  • You should not be on paid employment or accept paid employment or concurrently hold any other scholarship, fellowship, bursary or top-up allowance during the prescribed period of the award
Bond
There is no bond attached to the scholarship. No deferment of scholarship awarded will be allowed. Awards that are not taken up will be given to other qualified candidates.
Coverage
Each scholarship is tenable for a period of around 6 months only (NTU portion) for Master of Management in Hospitality, 1 year only for M.Sc. and M.Mass Communication programmes and 4 trimesters (16 months) only for the MBA programme.
Each scholarship shall cover the following:
  • Monthly stipend of S$1,350.00
  • Book allowance of S$500.00
  • Tuition fee, health insurance, examination fee and other approved fees, allowances and expenses
  • Cost of one overseas Business Study Mission (for MBA candidates only) undertaken within the tenable period of the scholarship
  • Cost of travel from home country to Singapore on award of the scholarship
  • Cost of travel from Singapore to home country on successful completion of the Masters degree within the tenable period of the scholarship

Beasiswa S2/S3 Luar Negeri Ditjen Dikti Gelombang 7 alokasi tahun 2012

Program Beasiswa Luar Negeri diselenggarakan oleh Direktorat Pendidik dan Tenaga Kependidikan DIKTI berupa pemberian biaya pendidikan bagi Dosen tetap dari PTN atau PTS di lingkungan pendidikan tinggi Indonesia untuk mengikuti program pendidikan pascasarjana (magister dan/atau doktor) di luar negeri. Beasiswa diberikan pada calon yang berstatus mahasiswa baru selama maksimum 24 bulan untuk program magister dan 36 bulan untuk program doktor.
Persyaratan yang harus dipenuhi oleh pelamar BLN adalah sebagai berikut:
  • Dosen tetap dari PTN atau PTS;
  • Telah mendapatkan Letter of Acceptance (Letter of Offer) yang masih berlaku dari institusi dan/atau dari calon pembimbing dari Perguruan Tinggi luar negeri yang dituju (diutamakan yang berasal dari perguruan tinggi negara maju dengan reputasi baik berdasarkan ranking THES dan Webos);
  • Telah mempunyai gelar S2 atau yang setara untuk pelamar program S3. Telah mempunyai gelar S1 atau yang setara untuk pelamar program S2;
  • Penguasaan bahasa Inggris yang memadai (TOEFL institusional minimal 550, atau IELTS minimal 6.0), dan atau bahasa pengantar lain yang digunakan di perguruan tinggi tujuan masing-masing;
  • Untuk program S3, telah mempunyai usulan penelitian yang disetujui oleh (sekurang- kurangnya sudah dikomunikasikan dengan) calon pembimbing di PT luar negeri yang dituju;
  • Umur calon tidak lebih dari 50 tahun ketika mendaftar;
  • Pelamar yang berstatus suami dan istri dari bidang keilmuan yang sama, di tidak diperkenankan melamar pada perguruan tinggi yang sama dan/atau dibimbing oleh promotor yang sama
Prosedur Pendaftaran BLN
  • Proses pelamaran dilakukan secara on-line, melalui laman Dikti di http://beasiswa.dikti.go.id;
  • Mengisi Form-A dari Ditjen Pendidikan Tinggi;
  • Melampirkan Letter of Acceptance (Letter of Offer) yang masih berlaku dari institusi dan/atau dari calon pembimbing di Perguruan Tinggi luar negeri yang dituju. Pelamar yang mendapatkan Letter of Acceptance (Letter of Offer) bebas syarat (unconditional) dari PT yang dituju akan lebih diutamakan;
  • Melampirkan salinan ijazah dan transkrip (IPK) S1 dan S2 yang telah dilegalisasi untuk yang akan menempuh program S3, atau salinan ijazah dan transkrip S1 untuk yang akan menempuh program S2;
  • Melampirkan salinan sertifikat –yang masih berlaku- bukti kemampuan berbahasa Inggris (TOEFL institusional minimal 550, atau IELTS minimal 6.0) atau salinan sertifikat penguasaan bahasa pengantar lain yang digunakan di perguruan tinggi tujuan masing-masing;
  • Melampirkan –bagi pelamar program S3- usulan penelitian (research proposal) yang telah disetujui oleh (sekurang- kurangnya sudah dikomunikasikan dengan) calon pembimbing di PT luar negeri yang dituju.

PhD in Computational Mathematics, Johannes Kepler University, Austria

The Doctoral Program (DK, in short for the German name Doktoratskolleg) “ComputationalMathematics” (W1214) is a special effort of five institutes (four of the Johannes Kepler University Linz (JKU) and one (RICAM) of the Austrian Academy of Sciences). The general goal is combined PhD education in numerical analysis and symbolic computation. Currently the DK is granted by the Austrian Science Funds (FWF) for a duration of three years, with a prospect of prolongation for another nine years. It officially starts on October 1, 2008. The director is Prof. Dr. Peter Paule (RISC).

Melirik Singapura, Mencari Impian Studi

Sebagai tetangga dekat, Singapura juga kerap dilirik pelajar Indonesia yang ingin menimba ilmu lanjutan di pendidikan tinggi. Apa dan bagaimana informasi studi di Negeri Kepala Singa ini?


Universitas Negeri.
Hingga kini, Singapura mempunyai dua universitas negeri, yaitu National University of Singapore (NUS) dan Nanyang Technological University (NTU) serta sebuah universitas bersubsidi, yaitu Singapore Management University (SMU).


Universitas asing
James Cook University dan Curtin University dari Australia, University of Nevada-Las Vegas dan Chicago University dari AS adalah empat perguruan tinggi yang bisa dijadikan contoh.


Politeknik
Politeknik merupakan institusi milik pemerintah, yang menyelenggarakan program-program diploma untuk berbagai bidang studi dengan lama studi dua sampai tiga tahun. Kenapa Harus Studi ke Malaysia?

Seperti halnya Singapura sebagai negara tetangga terdekat, Malaysia juga banyak dilirik pelajar Indonesia untuk dijadikan negara tujuan studi. Kenapa, ya?
Perguruan tinggi di Malaysia lebih banyak didominasi swasta (private higher education instituions/PHEIs). Universitas negeri di Negeri Jiran ini ada 11, ditambah beberapa public university college.
Ada dua jenis perguruan tinggi swasta di Malaysia, yaitu universitas dan non-universitas. Perguruan tinggi swasta non-universitas bisa berbentuk sekolah tinggi atau lembaga pendidikan sejenis.
Ada juga universitas yang dikelola lembaga pendidikan tinggi lokal, ada pula yang berbentuk cabang dari perguruan tinggi asing. Adapun perguruan tinggi swasta yang bekerja sama dengan universitas luar negeri, umumnya memberi gelar ganda, lokal dan internasional.

Pilah-Pilih Sistem Pembelajaran Studi

Ada beberapa perbedaan sistem pembelajaran di Amerika Serikat (AS) dan Australia, baik untuk jenjang S-2 (Master) maupun S-3 (PhD). Di AS, studi di jenjang S-2 bisa memilih by courseatau by thesis. Jika memilih by course, mahasiswa mengikuti semua mata kuliah dengan berbagai tugasnya dan lulus S-2 tanpa harus menulis tesis.
Untuk yang memilih by thesis, tahun pertama dilalui dengan mengikuti beberapa mata kuliah dengan segala tugasnya. Setelah tahun pertama berakhir, mahasiswa mulai menulis tesis, dalam hal ini minor thesis karena hanya dikerjakan dalam waktu yang pendek (dua semester). Bagi yang berkarier sebagai peneliti, dosen, atau bekerja di bagian litbang suatu lembaga, lebih baik mengikuti jenjang ini karena setelah selesai studi bisa membawa "oleh-oleh" karya tulis (tesis S-2).
Selanjutnya, untuk melanjutkan ke tingkat Doktoral (PhD) juga lebih mudah diterima karena "sudah pernah" menulis tesis. Sedangkan bagi yang mengikuti by course, saat melanjutkan ke jenjang S-3 masih harus mengikuti beberapa mata kuliah yang dibutuhkan untuk melakukan riset karena umumnya jenjang S-3 adalah research based degree program.
Jenjang S-3 juga diawali dengan beberapa mata kuliah berikut berbagai tugasnya, kemudian menjelang berakhirnya tahun kedua, mahasiswa mulai menulis disertasi, didampingi tim pembimbing.
Mekanisme tersebut agak berbeda dengan sistem di Australia. Untuk jenjang S-2, mahasiswa bisa memilih by course (master by coursework) atau by research (master by research). Jika memilih by course, mahasiswa mengikuti berbagai mata kuliah dengan berbagai tugas-tugasnya dan lulus master.
Sementara itu, jika memilih by research, mahasiswa hanya akan berinteraksi dan berkomunikasi dengan dosen pembimbing saja selama studi dijalani, termasuk berkomunikasi dengan peer group penelitiannya. Mahasiswa S-2 yang memilih jalur ini akan kehilangan kesempatan mengikuti kuliah dengan teman-teman kuliah dari banyak bangsa di dunia.

Berinteraksi atau bersunyi-sunyi?
Pengalaman mengikuti kuliah seperti itu sangat berharga dan sebaiknya tidak dilewatkan. Namun, pilihan berpulang kepada pribadi setiap calon mahasiswa. Kalau ingin berinteraksi dengan orang dari berbagai bangsa, pilihlah master by coursework. Tapi, jika ingin bersunyi-sunyi mengerjakan penelitian dengan tekun, pilihlah master by research.
Hampir sama dengan di AS, yang mengikuti master by coursework di Australia masih harus mengikuti beberapa mata kuliah yang berkaitan dengan conducting the research jika memasuki studi S-3. Namun, bagi yang telah lulus master by research, memasuki studi S-3 akan langsung mengerjakan penelitiannya karena dia dianggap telah mampu melakukan penelitian.
Saat S-3, mahasiswa hanya akan berinteraksi dengan pembimbing disertasinya serta dengan dosen-dosen lain apabila dibutuhkan untuk menambah wawasan. Dalam studi S-3 di Australia, biasanya mahasiswa "dilepas" oleh pembimbingnya. Dalam arti, segala inisiatif untuk konsultasi, mencari materi studi, dan sebagainya diharapkan datang dari pihak mahasiswa. Pembimbing hanya akan mengarahkan saja. Oleh karena itu, mahasiswa dituntut aktif berkomunikasi dengan pembimbingnya.
Dari berbagai pilihan pada jenjang studi S-2 dan S-3 itu, penulis mempunyai pengalaman yang mungkin bisa diambil manfaatnya bagi calon mahasiswa S-2 dan S-3. Saat studi S-2 di AS, penulis memilihmaster by thesis karena profesi penulis sebagai dosen. Setelah lulus, dua tahun kemudian penulis melanjutkan studi S-3 di Australia.
Jalannya mulus sekali, penulis langsung diminta mengerjakan penelitian. Penulis dianggap sudah mampu mengerjakan penelitian ataupun menulis penelitian dalam bahasa Inggris. Yang harus penulis pelajari saat itu ialah mata kuliah Statistik. Penulis diminta oleh pembimbing S-3 untuk mengikuti mata kuliah Statistik tanpa harus mengikuti ujian mata kuliah itu.

2012/2013 ADVANCED ACADEMIA FELLOWSHIP PROGRAMME 
FOR INTERNATIONAL SCHOLARS (SOCIAL SCIENCES AND HUMANITIES)

The Centre for Advanced Study Sofia (CAS Sofia) announces a Call for Applications for its 2012/2013 In-Residence Advanced Academia Fellowships in the fields of the humanities and the social sciences.
OBJECTIVE
CAS Sofia is an independent Institute with international and multidisciplinary profile. Located in Sofia, Bulgaria, it promotes high-level scholarship in the social sciences and the humanities. In addition to supporting focus-group research, CAS Sofia invites outstanding scholars to pursue their individual research projects during in-residence periods of up to five months. The invited Fellows participate in the intellectual life and the scholarly community of the Centre (Bulgarian and foreign fellows) while working on projects of their own choice. Fellows receive adequate material and intellectual support and can profit from the Centre’s wide international networks, international seminar- and guest-lecturer programme. CAS Sofia assists Fellows in all practical matters concerning travel, residence and research in Sofia.
FORMAT
For the academic year 2012/2013 CAS Sofia provides in-residence fellowships of two- to five- month duration to post-doctoral non-Bulgarian researchers. Junior as well as Senior scholars are invited to apply.
The selected Fellows are entitled to:
  • A monthly stipend of 700 euro (liable to 10% income tax) to cover living expenses related to the stay in Sofia.
  • Accommodation in Sofia, comprising living quarters and working space. The Fellows will also have free access to the CAS library and electronic resources/databases.
  • Travel allowance (400 euro)
  • Research expenses (100 euro p.m.)
DURATION AND CONDITIONS
Candidates must indicate the preferred fellowship duration and its starting date within the following periods:
I. 1 March 2012 – 31 July 2012
II. 1 October 2012 – 28 February 2013
The selected Fellows will take part in the regular Fellow seminars and the other scientific events organized by the Centre (workshops, conferences, lectures, etc.) and are invited to present and discuss their project in lectures or seminars. The results of their work shall be summarized in a paper (in English), to be published in the electronic CAS Working Paper Series.
ELIGIBILITY
Candidates must
  • Be non-Bulgarian citizens;
  • Have completed a PhD in the fields of the humanities and social sciences;
  • International research experience (participation in projects and refereed conferences) and publications in peer-reviewed academic editions are strong advantages.
WORKING LANGUAGE
As an international academic institution CAS conducts most of its work in English which is also the language of the presentations of research results. Therefore, a good command of English is highly desirable.

For Junior scholars (up to 12 years after PhD defense) only: two letters of recommendation by scholars familiar with the applicant’s academic work should be faxed/mailed/emailed to CAS by the referees.
Extensions to this period may be allowed in case of eligible career breaks which must be properly documented (maternity leave, long-term illness leave, national service).

SELECTION CRITERIA
  • High quality of the candidate’s academic portfolio and publications, participation in international research;
  • Innovative research proposal with significant contribution;
  • Interdisciplinary and/or comparative approaches are an advantage.
SELECTION PROCEDURE
The selection will be carried out by the international Academic Council of CAS based on evaluation of the potential of the candidate relative to his/her career stage and the quality of the proposed project. In some special cases candidates may be invited for an interview. The results will be announced by the end of January 2012 by e-mail and at the website of the institute: http://www.cas.bg/.
The Academic Council reserves the right, in cases of candidatures with equal quality, to grant advantage to candidates that have not been CAS Fellows within the preceding 3 years / have not repeatedly held CAS fellowships in the past.
